CHIC HOME CHRISTMAS PAST

This picture was from a few years back, recognize my "entertainment" center? Happy to say it is back in the master bedroom as a dresser. My furniture usually serves dual purposes when needed, that is how I look at all of my furnishings.

So I love Christmas and I am always taking pictures of the tree and decor and this is the perfect place to share some of my Christmas' past. I have collected 15 storage containers of ornaments and decor over the years and each year the trees never look the exact same. I mix and match depending on mood, decor and who is helping with the decorating. When the kids were younger they were usually always decorated for the kids. Handmade ornaments, kermit, miss piggy, popcorn, reindeer, santa clause, loads of red and green and mixed with a few glass ornaments for sparkle on a real Christmas tree that we would drive all the way down to the Long Beach train station where they would unload fresh trees right off the box cars to get. It was an all night tradition every Dec. 15th for 14 yrs. I have to admit I really miss those days!

My tree decorating now starts with my collection of mercury glass vintage ornaments mixed with new ones, a few handmade ornaments and a skirt I made from vintage glittered felt I found at an estate sale.

Every once in a while we would splurge for the flocking. The year we had this tree I specifically asked them to get on a ladder and lightly spray down so it looked like "new fallen snow". A couple of years ago the prices were so high and I had one of those trees that dried up in a week and a half despite my dauntless efforts to keep it alive so I bought a fake frosted tree made by Hallmark! I am still getting used to it.

This was the biggest tree we ever had, 10 feet of  evergreen perfection for only $25!!! We were up in Oregon visiting my daughter and the grandchildren and as Californians we were shocked to find that all trees, no matter what size you wanted were $25. WHO KNEW!!!

The grandies were so excited they spent days making a paper garland big enough to go around that tree. We bought them loads of new ornaments to go with their garland. Isn't wonderful how children's eyes light up at Christmas?!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from CHIC HOME!

Warmest wishes,
