Creative Chic On A Shoestring

I love, love, love thrifting it was the only way I could decorate our home when we first started out. The excitement of the hunt and the sense of accomplishment in staying within my budget was an added bonus.

My parents and grandparents spent weekends at the "swapmeet" (that's what we called them in Southern California. They were held in the drive-in movie theaters) selling, buying and trading antiques, coins, and jewelry. They taught me the art of of the deal! I enjoy it so much that I turned it into a business.

My first love is sewing, I have been sewing my own clothes and making or remaking my own home decor since I was eleven, skills my Mom and Nanas also shared with me. I am one of those people that strive for individuality in everything I do and I just get excited about learning new things. Fashion design and merchandising was my career choice but after getting to meet and talk to a couple of designers my husband was working with I became smitten with the world of interior design.

I recycle, reuse and refresh everything I can. I prefer quality over quantity, I support artisans and small business. I choose vintage over new 90% of the time. I buy American made and grown.

I am very mindful of what I bring into my home and what things are made of so there will be a few soap box posts here and there. I have learned quite a bit over the years about the dangers we allow into our homes in the name of comfort and style.

My personal style philosophy:

If I can't find what I want, I can make it.
If I don't like what I have, I can change it.
If I can't afford it, I just don't buy it.

I have always been able to create a stylish and welcoming environment despite where we lived, what we lived in or how much money we had, which has ranged from plenty of breathing room to barely get by!

I created this blog to keep track of and share; my projects, ideas, inspiration, products, photography and daily design life. I create something almost every day. I write about all the things I enjoy doing, failures as well as successes and I hope you enjoy reading!

Subscribe by email and you will get every post delivered to your inbox. The information on my projects, decorating and diys will always be complete posts with steps, costs and resources listed. and there will be no affiliate links or ads. I will however be happy to review products and consider sponsored posts. I am going old school on this blog, no interruptions, just content!

Thanks again for stopping by!
